ARTIST’S STATEMENT

"... I design objects in a wide variety of media. Some of my designs are inspired by classical art from other cultures, and some are purely from my own imagination. Using materials such as canvas, bronze, silver, and painted wood I am able to generate designs which are decorative and functional. The subjects are largely derived from the native flora and fauna of the Eastern Shore of Virginia, and the formats are often adapted from classical or primitive styles.  I seek to document and explore the diversity of wildlife and to increase the awareness of my audience, with the hope of protecting our natural environment. Since much of my design work is done on commission, it is linked not only to the natural world, but also to the dreams and imaginations of the patrons who request it. By creating functional objects like floorcloths, painted furniture, and jewelry, I hope to enhance the lives of my viewers on a daily basis."
